🍋 Lemonade
Lemonade is a simple drink of freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar and water. It balances sour and sweet and is served cold, often over ice with a slice of lemon. Homemade lemonade is a summer staple in many countries and is easy to adjust to taste.

What it is made of
Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 lemons (about 160 ml juice)
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 800 ml cold water
Method
- Squeeze the lemons and strain out the seeds.
- Dissolve the sugar in a little of the water.
- Stir the lemon juice, sugared water and remaining water together.
- Taste, adjust the sugar and serve at once, well chilled.
How to make it lighter
- Almost all the calories come from sugar: each tablespoon adds about 48 kcal.
- Halve the sugar and add more lemon zest and ice for flavour.
- Order it 'no sugar' or lightly sweet in cafés and sweeten to taste yourself.
History
Sweetened lemon drinks have been made around the Mediterranean and the Middle East for centuries, and lemonade is now drunk all over the world.
