🍋 Lemonade (limonata)
Limonata is a simple homemade lemonade of freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar and cold water. It tastes sharp and refreshing, with just enough sweetness to balance the acidity. It is served chilled over ice, often with lemon slices or a sprig of mint, on hot summer days.

What it is made of
Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 lemons (about 160 ml juice)
- 80 g sugar
- 1 litre cold water
- Ice cubes
- Lemon slices and mint leaves to serve
Method
- Dissolve the sugar in 200 ml of warm water to make a light syrup and let it cool.
- Squeeze the lemons and strain the juice.
- Mix the juice, syrup and the remaining cold water. Taste and adjust.
- Serve over ice with lemon slices and mint.
How to make it lighter
- Cut the sugar by half and add more ice and mint — the drink stays bright and tart.
- 1 tbsp sugar ≈ 50 kcal, so sweetening to taste glass by glass helps keep track.
- Top up with sparkling water instead of still water for a lighter, fizzy version with no extra sugar.
History
Lemonade under the name limonata is a summer staple in Turkey and Italy, sold by street vendors and served in homes and cafés across the Mediterranean.
