🍌 Banana
A banana is one of the most eaten fruits in the world: soft, sweet and sold in its own easy-to-peel skin. A medium banana weighs roughly 120 g without the peel. Slightly green bananas are firmer and less sweet, while spotted yellow ones are soft, fragrant and much sweeter. It is eaten on its own as a snack, sliced over breakfast or blended into drinks.

What it is made of
Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana
- A pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
- A few drops of lemon juice (optional)
Method
- Peel the banana and eat it whole, or slice it into rounds.
- For a simple snack plate, sprinkle the slices with cinnamon and a few drops of lemon juice to keep them from browning.
How to make it lighter
- A medium banana is an easy way to fit something sweet into a calorie budget; log the peeled weight for accuracy.
- Riper bananas taste sweeter, so half a very ripe banana can satisfy a sweet craving.
- Frozen banana slices blended alone make a soft-serve style dessert with no added sugar.
History
Bananas were first domesticated in New Guinea and the surrounding region of Southeast Asia thousands of years ago and later spread through South Asia, Africa and the Americas. Today they are grown throughout the tropics and are one of the most widely traded fruits on earth.
