🥤 Whey Protein Shake
A whey protein shake is one scoop of whey protein powder shaken with milk, water or a mix of both until smooth. Made with milk it is creamy and milky; with water it is thinner and lighter. It is commonly drunk after training or as a quick, high-protein snack.

Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 scoop whey protein powder (about 30 g)
- 200 ml milk
- 100 ml cold water
- A few ice cubes (optional)
Method
- Pour the milk and water into a shaker bottle or blender.
- Add the protein powder on top of the liquid so it does not clump.
- Shake or blend for 20–30 seconds until smooth, add ice if you like and drink straight away.
How to make it lighter
- Use all water or skimmed milk instead of whole milk for a lighter shake.
- Stick to one level scoop; the scoop size on the label is the serving the nutrition facts refer to.
- Choose an unflavoured or low-sugar powder and add cinnamon or a little fruit for flavour.
History
Whey, the liquid left over from cheesemaking, became widely available as a powder in the late 20th century, and shakes made from it are now a fixture of gyms and sports nutrition.
