🍛 Riz Casimir
Riz Casimir is a Swiss classic of mildly curried chicken in a creamy sauce, served over rice with pineapple and banana. The fruit adds sweetness to the gentle curry, and toasted almonds give crunch. The result is fruity, creamy and comforting — a retro dish still common in Swiss canteens and restaurants.

Recipe
Ingredients
- 250 g rice
- 500 g chicken breast, in strips
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tbsp curry powder
- 200 ml cream
- 200 ml water
- 200 g pineapple, in chunks
- 2 bananas, sliced
- 20 g flaked almonds
- 1 tbsp oil
Method
- Cook the rice.
- Brown the chicken in the oil, then add the onion and soften.
- Stir in the curry powder, then the water and cream; simmer 10 minutes.
- Warm the pineapple and banana briefly in a pan.
- Serve the chicken over rice, topped with the fruit and toasted almonds.
How to make it lighter
- Use half the cream and more water for a lighter sauce; 100 ml cream ≈ 300 kcal.
- Keep the rice to about 150 g cooked per plate and add a side salad.
- Toast the almonds dry, without oil, and use just a sprinkle.
History
Riz Casimir is usually credited to a Swiss restaurant chain in the early 1950s, when exotic fruit and curry were fashionable. It remains a familiar dish in Swiss homes and staff canteens.
